VIVIEN
GAY
President
Vivien Gay is a founding partner
and President of The Isosceles Group, a marketing agency focusing
on marketing beverages and other consumer goods to the gay and lesbian
consumer on a national basis. She founded the agency based in San
Francisco in early 1996. In addition, Vivien consults for several
different wineries on all matters relating to sales and marketing.
Vivien was bom and raised in London and divided
her time between school in London and her family's small vineyard
in the southwest county of Dorset. She grew up with a strong wine
influence. Her father, an avid wine collector, encouraged his precocious
young daughter to choose wines off restaurant wine lists. Her mother's
cousin is the well-known wine connoisseur, Harry Waugh. A wine career
was therefore the natural path for Vivien to follow. However, after
graduating from college in Madrid, Spain, she chose instead to enter
the travel industry working for Supertravel, a London based company,
and with them had the opportunity to travel the world extensively.
This led to an invitation to be a member of the Sir John Barrow
Commemorative Expedition sponsored by The Royal Geographical Society
that in 1980 went to the Pitcairn Isles following and studying the
route that the Bounty mutineers took after the mutiny on the Bounty.
Her travels ultimately brought her to California where she decided
to settle and go back to her wine roots.
She entered the California wine business in
1982 as a retail wine buyer in San Francisco. In 1983 she became
a sales representative for Southern Wine & Spirits and was promoted
to District Sales Manager before joining Callaway Vineyards where
she served as both Western Regional Sales Manager and Vice-President
of Sales and Marketing. In 1990 she joined St. Supèry Vineyards
in Napa as Vice President of Sales and was responsible for building
a lasting foundation for St. Supèry, Bonverre and Mt. Maroma. Most
recently she was Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Sonoma-Cutrer.
Her extensive experience in the beverage industry and her involvement
in the gay community provided the foundation for the formation of
The Isosceles Group in early 1996.
She lives in San Francisco where she is an active
member of the wine community. She has regularly judged at the Reno
West Coast Wine Fair and, prior to that, at the San Francisco Wine
Fair. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Project
Open Hand, which delivers meals to people with AIDS. In addition,
she supports the Human Rights Campaign at a local and national level
through the Federal Club and is a member of the San Francisco Bay
Area Career Women and the Uncommon Legacy Foundation.
Vivien has been a resident of San Francisco
since 1981.
